Writing to Succeed

Hi! My name is Johneche Marsalis born and raised in McComb, Ms. I'm currently a junior at the University of Southern Mississippi and majoring in Community Health Science with an emphasis in Health Policy and Administration. I'm involved in the organizations on campus such as I.D.E.A.L Women the acronym that stands for Intelligent, Dignifed, Elegant, Ambitious, Leaders. I'm also a proud member of Legacy and NAACP. Even though I'm undecided on where I would like to go, I still plan to attend grad school to earn my masters degree in Health Policy and Administration. In the future, I plan to manage/coordinate a large hospital facility in Texas or Georgia.
Writing to me at times can be a struggle especially if I'm writing about a topic that is puzzling or just plain boring!!! On the other hand, I enjoy writing because I feel like I can express my thoughs and opinions better through my writing.
Writing was once difficult to me when I had to write a paper about a deceased family member. I chose to write about my grandmother. While writing on such a extreme subject I became so emotional because every word I wrote about her was true and my mind was completely on her instead of the assigned topic but in my mind I knew that I would get a good grade. Unfortunately, my grade wasn't what I expected because I failed to declare to my audience why I was writing about her. Even though I failed in the beginning, the end paid off when I revised the paper and I got the grade I wanted. I learned that sometimes failing gives me a sense of accomplishment and motivation to do better.
I'm really beginning to enjoy the class already. I hope to strenthen my writing abilities and learn new strategies to organized my thoughts and also how to convey them to an audience. Even though writing isn't my strongest subject, I plan to succeed in technical writing!!
